Good News to KNEC Contracted Professionals as MoE gives Assurance
Dr. Belio Kipsang, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Basic Education, has given his assurance that teachers responsible for managing examinations will receive their payments promptly.
He emphasized the Ministry of Education’s commitment to ensuring timely compensation for examiners, invigilators, scorers, security personnel, and others involved in the administration of national exams to prevent any disruptions.
Dr. Kipsang stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to uphold the credibility of the examination process. He highlighted the pressing need to address a prevailing lack of trust during exam administration.
He suggested that involving the police might not be necessary if there was trust in the abilities of teachers to conduct fair and credible exams.
He urged all stakeholders to work towards rebuilding trust during national examinations, aiming to restore the trust that once existed in the teaching profession. He questioned why mock exams do not leak, even though teachers are responsible for setting, administering, and grading them, and suggested that the same trust could be applied to national exams.

Additionally, Dr. Kipsang cautioned schools against scheduling extracurricular activities during the third term to ensure that students have sufficient time to prepare for their exams. He requested that teachers refrain from sending students, particularly candidates, home for school fees during this crucial term to minimize disruptions to their exam preparation.
This year, approximately 3.5 million students are expected to participate in national examinations, including 1.4 million candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), 1.2 million for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), and 900,000 candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (KCSE). The successful administration of these exams remains a priority for the Ministry of Education.
