Girls’ School In Nyamira County Hospitalized of Diarrhoea

Due to severe stomach pains, 148 girls from Nyamira County’s Ikonge PAG Girls Secondary School have been hospitalised to various medical facilities.

The students’ illness is thought to have been brought on by drinking tainted water. What caused the water pollution at the public facility was unclear.

In order to assess the situation at Ekerenyo Hospital, where the students are currently receiving treatment, Claire Oyula, the Education Director of Nyamira North Sub-county, is working with other Ministry of Education authorities.

After reports of food poisoning at the school, Mukumu Girls’ and Butere Boys’ was closed a few months before to the tragedy.

A possible instance of food and water poisoning that required medical attention affected more than 500 students.

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) announced on April 5 that the Mukumu Girls’ High School students had been infected with amoebia and gastroenteritis simultaneously.

Many pupils reported having significant abdominal pain and stomach pain.

According to Susan Nakhumicha, the health cabinet secretary, a large number of students in Kakamega had to be admitted to various medical institutions due to the infection.

Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, recently enacted new rules governing the purchase of food and water for consumption in schools across the nation.

According to the new regulations, every school must create a safety subcommittee in charge of enforcing strict compliance with sanitary requirements and creating procedures to protect all kids in the case of a disease epidemic.

In order to perform frequent inspections in schools, the Ministry has increased the mobility of its inspectors. Additionally, it has demanded that all educational institutions reduce the amount of food that is purchased independently by each school.
