Garissa Principal Jailed for 35 years
Hussein Ali, the principal and director of Mwangaza Secondary inside the county, was sentenced to 35 years in prison by a Garissa Court after being found responsible for sodomising a form 2 student.
The assault took place in November 2021, and the victim revealed that the principal was carrying a weapon when she was attacked. The victim said she was too afraid to fight back.
Resident Magistrate Shadrack Otuke made the decision and sentenced the principal to 35 years in jail after finding him guilty of the crime.
The accused should be imprisoned and held responsible for his own conduct after mentioning the judicial sentence guidelines above, which I think persuasive, and taking into account the high court’s requirements. Otuke declared, “The defendant is hereby condemned to 35 years’ incarceration in detention.
The victim’s family, who have been pursuing justice since November 2021, is relieved by the verdict, and it also acts as a deterrent to other possible offenders.
Judge Otuke emphasised that teachers have a responsibility to protect kids, not take advantage of them.

The defence attorney vehemently disagreed with the judge’s decision, arguing that his client was innocent.
He asserted that there was a conspiracy to falsely accuse the owner of the land on which the school was built because of a disagreement over who owned it.
