Fulham and Sporting CP are vying for the signature of Panathinaikos and Greece defender Georgios Vagiannidis, as per sources at Football Insider. Fulham had actively sought a right-back in the January transfer window and remain determined to secure one in the summer, with the 23-year-old featuring prominently on their list of targets.

A number of clubs, including Ajax, Zenit, and Botafogo, submitted bids for Vagiannidis in January. However, the player opted to remain at Panathinaikos instead of making a mid-season move.

Sporting CP is eager to gain an advantage in the summer window and is preparing to table an offer close to €10 million for the full-back. Meanwhile, Fulham remains a strong contender for Vagiannidis’ signature and is expected to make an official approach during the off-season.

The Greek defender progressed through Panathinaikos’ youth system before securing a move to Inter Milan in the summer of 2020. However, he returned to Panathinaikos a year later, where he has since established himself as a key player.

Impressive Performances on the European Stage

This season, Vagiannidis has featured in 30 matches across all competitions, starting in 24 of them and contributing two goals. His performances have not been limited to domestic competition, as he has also played for Panathinaikos in both Europa League qualifiers and the UEFA Conference League.

The right-back made his senior debut for Greece in September 2024 and has since earned three international caps.

Fulham currently have right-backs Timothy Castagne and Kenny Tete in their squad at Craven Cottage. However, Tete’s contract is set to expire in June, which has heightened the club’s need for reinforcement in that position.

Marco Silva’s squad has made significant progress toward securing their first-ever major trophy. On Sunday (2 March), Fulham defeated Manchester United in a penalty shootout in the FA Cup fifth round.

Following the defeat, reports from Football Insider indicate that Manchester United supporters are beginning to lose faith in manager Ruben Amorim. Fulham’s next challenge in the tournament will be against Crystal Palace on 29 March, with a semi-final place at Wembley at stake.

Among the remaining teams in the FA Cup are Brighton, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth. In the Premier League, Fulham currently occupy the ninth position as they prepare for their upcoming fixture against Brighton.
