Fire Destroys Ofafa Jericho Secondary School and Sigalame Boys Dormitories




Over 35 students were hospitalized on Monday night after inhaling smoke fumes from a dormitory fire at Ofafa Jericho High School in Makadara constituency, Nairobi County.

The fire, which began around 8:30 p.m., also destroyed students' personal effects, according to school principal Mathews Linge.

According to Linge, the 32 students were rushed to Metropolitan Hospital in Buruburu, where they are being treated. All of the students are in good health and will be discharged soon.

Two of the 32 were transferred to Avenue Hospital, two to Meridian Hospital, and three others were transferred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital after being rushed to Jericho Hospital.

The number of affected students is not yet known however when the fire was put out the principal had said that about eight students had been affected.




Metropolitan CEO Dr Kanyemje Gakombe stated that the students were safe and did not suffer from external burns.

They inhaled toxic smoke from mattresses, but we were able to treat all of them," he said, adding that some of the students were taken to other medical facilities.

Nairobi County firefighters, on the other hand, were able to put out the fire. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Meanwhile, a massive fire has destroyed one of the dormitories at Sigalame High School in Funyula Busia County.




According to reports, no one was inside the dormitory at the time of the incident, so students escaped unharmed. The fire has since been extinguished.
