Erik ten Hag is eager to rid Manchester United of Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, Fred, and Scott McTominay this summer, but it may be difficult to coordinate their departures.
The Dutchman intends to trim his roster and offload players who are unlikely to have a significant influence on the first team in the upcoming season.
The Red Devils do not have a large transfer budget this summer, so selling peripheral players would generate funds for positions they do need to strengthen, such as goalkeeper and center forward.
However, given how much some of their unwanted players cost and how much they earn at Old Trafford, it may not be simple for Manchester United to sell their unwanted players.
The Independent reports that United are receptive to offers for Maguire, Sancho, Fred, and McTominay, but will not sell them cheaply.
Maguire cost United $80 million to acquire from Leicester City in 2019, and the Red Devils are purportedly seeking £50 million for him this summer. However, the 30-year-old’s performance over the past year has been so poor that such a price seems unlikely.
West Ham and other Premier League clubs have been linked to the England defender, but they do not expect to pay more than £35 million for him.
Harry Maguire has fallen substantially in Old Trafford’s pecking order.
Sancho signed for £73 million from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, but he has failed to make the kind of impact that was anticipated when he signed.
Ten Hag is content to move on from the England winger, but transfer fee and wages continue to be an issue. Tottenham has been mentioned as a potential destination, but no progress has been made on a possible transfer.
