Erik ten Hag reveals Marcus Rashford’s position as Garnacho sends a message to Manchester United fans after his unpleasant game
Marcus Rashford has scored 20 goals for Manchester United this season, and due to injuries to Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst, the No. 10 could move to the No. 9 position.
Erik ten Hag is open to playing Marcus Rashford up front after the Manchester United forward scored his second goal in as many appearances as a striker.
Rashford began the match against Leeds in his weakest position on the right wing, but Ten Hag switched him to the opposite flank at the start of the second half when United trailed 1-0.
Raphael Varane scored an own goal to put Leeds up 2-0 in the 48th minute, and United changed Wout Weghorst for Jadon Sancho in the 59th minute. Rashford netted his 20th goal of the season three minutes later off a Diogo Dalot cross after Rashford had come inside after Sancho’s alignment on the left flank.
Anthony Martial missed his 21st of 35 United matches this season in the 1-1 draw with Leeds, while Weghorst has scored only once in seven contests. Rashford could replace Weghorst as the No. 9 against Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday with the return of Sancho.
“It’s difficult to analyse but I think after we make that change it’s different for the opponent,” Ten Hag said. “It’s difficult for the opponent because the dynamic changes. The defenders are in a certain way, they are anticipating a certain attack and then all of a sudden everything is changing.
” When we moved there, not only Rashford but we bring in Sancho and we bring in Pellistri. And that changes the game, as we did on Saturday as well. And we benefit from that situation, I think.”
Alejandro Garnacho sends message to Manchester United fans after struggling against Leeds
Wednesday evening, Alejandro Garnacho played his first forgettable game for Manchester United as Erik ten Hag’s squad was beaten to a 2-2 tie by Leeds United.
United fell behind in the first minute as Wilfried Gnonto scored a magnificent goal to put Leeds in lead. Despite dominating the bulk of the first half, United was unable to find the back of the net.
Garnacho missed two golden opportunities to draw United level before halftime, and Ten Hag’s side paid when Raphael Varane scored an own goal in the 48th minute.
Before the hour mark, the 18-year-old was substituted by Facundo Pellistri, and United went on to salvage a draw with goals from Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.
Garnacho earned a great deal of support from United fans after the game, as the winger was eager to admit that he had a poor performance.
After United’s draw with Leeds, Garnacho said on Instagram: ‘When you don’t comprehend what is occurring, realize that God is in control.
“I have faith in the plan you have for me,”
During his post-match analysis, Ten Hag emphasized Garnacho’s two missed opportunities and asserted that United made the game more difficult with their lack of finishing ability.
“It demonstrates once again that this is a good team with good spirit; we also played fantastic football and generated several chances, but we lacked clinical finishing,” Ten Hag told MUTV.
“Garnacho scored twice in the first half; if you score an equalizer before halftime, the game is significantly simpler.” If you score the equalizer quickly after the break, you will soar.
“Now you have twice brought the opponent back into the game, which is unfortunate, but it was 2-2, we came back, and we scored beautiful goals.”
It was the first comment made at halftime: “Be prepared and on the offensive when the game begins.” When my team concedes twice, they are not prepared for the game, and I must criticize their performance.
