Erik ten Hag explains the benefits of Manchester United’s loan acquisition of Marcel Sabitzer.

Erik ten Hag is ecstatic about Manchester United’s late acquisition of Marcel Sabitzer and believes the midfielder, who he has admired for years, will fit in seamlessly at Old Trafford.

Christian Eriksen has been declared out until the end of April at the earliest, and Scott McTominay also faces time on the sidelines for Manchester United.

United moved swiftly to seek a temporary substitute, agreeing with Bayern Munich on the final day of the transfer window to sign Sabitzer on loan until the end of the season.

Sabitzer is tremendously driven to establish a name for himself at Old Trafford, which has pleased Ten Hag, who is certain that the 28-year-old can provide adequate support for the injured Eriksen.

Speaking after Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg victory against Nottingham Forest, he said, “We are quite pleased with that transfer because we needed it after Donny van de Beek fell out, and now Christian Eriksen for a longer period.”

Also, I believe Scott McTominay will be unavailable for a shorter period.

‘So that gave us a shortage of midfield players but then to bring a quality player in on deadline day, that’s difficult!

Then we got this opportunity. I know the player already a long time from Salzburg and especially from Leipzig, he performed fantastic, so I expect that he will do the same here.

‘I think he has a great attitude, he is in the right age and I’m sure this opportunity will motivate him strongly and he will perform for us.’

United is also thought to have inquired about Ryan Gravenberch, but Bayern wished to retain the young Dutchman, who played for Ajax under Ten Hag.

Sabitzer was unexpectedly considered surplus to needs despite having played three times as many minutes for Bayern this season as Gravenberch, having appeared 23 times in all competitions.
