Eregi Girls High School Closed over Outbreak of Unknown Disease

The administration of the school in Ikolomani has taken a grave decision to temporarily close the school due to the escalating unrest among students, which has been triggered by a mysterious outbreak. This unsettling situation has resulted in the hospitalization of at least 80 students, prompting immediate action.

According to an official statement released by the County Government of Kakamega, it has been decided that only Form Four students will continue attending classes during this turbulent period. This selective continuation of classes aims to ensure that the critical education of these senior students is not disrupted, while also providing them with the necessary support and attention.

In contrast, the students from Forms 1, 2, and 3 will be granted a one-week break from their academic responsibilities. This temporary hiatus is intended to allow both students and authorities to regroup, evaluate the situation, and put in place essential measures to prevent a recurrence of the troubling events that have unfolded.

The decision to grant this break was the result of careful deliberation, involving key stakeholders such as the Board of Management (BOM), Ministry of Education officials, representatives from the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), and the school’s dedicated sponsor.

The coming week will undoubtedly be crucial, as the school community, along with its supporters, collaborates to bring stability back to the campus and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
