Equity sponsors 98 scholars to study abroad
Thanks to scholarships from the Equity Group Foundation, 98 students will visit 52 international universities spread over 18 nations.
The learners received scholarships worth Sh2.44 billion from the Equity Leaders Programmes in four different nations.
One is from Uganda, 19 are from Rwanda, five are from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and 73 are from Kenya.
They will spend four years obtaining their undergraduate degrees.
The scholars will enrol in colleges in numerous nations throughout the world, including Hungary, the United States of America (USA), Canada, the United Kingdom, China, and India.
Each student would receive an airlift token worth up to Sh200,000 to help them settle into their international universities.
James Mwangi, Executive Chairman of Equity Group Foundation, praised the students for maintaining their focus on their objectives and obtaining scholarships to attend the top educational systems in the world while speaking during the Airlift Ceremony on Monday.
He challenged them to be committed to their pursuit of knowledge, noting that Africa’s future advancements depended on them.
“As you enter this new stage of your life, keep in mind that you had to earn your spot against thousands of competitors from around the world. You have distinguished yourself and shown that you possess the qualities of a truly global citizen, Mwangi remarked.
“I implore you to maintain that focus while you pursue knowledge. Keep in mind that thanks to you, Africa has a chance to advance on a number of development indicators, and I urge you to continue supporting the aspirations of the continent.
He urged the students to benefit from ecosystems that are supported by technology since there is where they can have a big influence.
You will be a part of academic institutions that collaborate with the private sector and research, invest in cutting-edge technology, and provide you with the information and skills you need to be globally competitive, according to Mwangi.
Take advantage of the opportunity to learn as much as you can while keeping in mind how these systems and technology can enable you to develop original solutions to Africa’s problems.
One of the scholars expressed his joy at the chance, saying it would allow him to become a living example of how Equity’s goal had benefited others.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of the Equity Leaders Programme at the University of Toronto. Through quality education and revolutionary leadership, I hope to get the knowledge and skills I need to help Africa evolve, he added.
856 students in total have benefited from the college counselling programme this year and have been accepted with success to top colleges on fully financed scholarships.
A project of the Equity Group Foundation, the Equity Leadership Programme was started in 1998 to foster leadership qualities in young people who have shown a lot of promise.
To build a network of transformative leaders who will collaborate across borders and industries to advance social and economic progress in Africa, the programme chooses top-performing students from around the country from the Equity Group banking subsidiaries.
