Egerton University seeks international accreditation for Masters Programmes
Egerton University is making determined efforts to achieve international recognition for two of its postgraduate programs: the Master of Science in Animal Nutrition and the Master of Science in Food Science. A significant step forward in this endeavor involved a thorough two-day evaluation of these programs by a team of experts from ASIIN, a reputable accreditation body in Europe.
During this assessment, the Egerton University Management Board, faculty members, and the ASIIN experts joined together for a group photo, symbolizing their collaborative work to enhance the quality of the aforementioned programs through global accreditation.
The ASIIN team, comprised of experts like Prof. Gerhard Schleining from BOKU in Austria, Prof. Bernhard Hiebl from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover in Germany, Eng. Anke Weisheit from Mbarara University of Science & Technology in Uganda, Sambwe Fundikira from Ghent University in Belgium and Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania, and Sascha Warnke, the Project Manager from ASIIN’s office in Germany, engaged with various stakeholders during their visit to Egerton University.
These stakeholders included the University Management Board, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Chairs of relevant departments, Programme Coordinators, CESAAM team, faculty, students, alumni, and industry/private sector partners. Representatives from the Directorate of Marketing and Resource Mobilization were also in attendance.

Prof. Isaac Kibwage, the Vice Chancellor of Egerton University, extended a warm welcome to the ASIIN team and expressed gratitude for their thorough evaluation. The ASIIN experts reciprocated by delivering a concise yet insightful preliminary report, outlining commendations, recommendations, and areas earmarked for further development based on their exhaustive evaluation.
Key areas under scrutiny included curriculum development, robust quality assurance measures, access to state-of-the-art facilities, program marketing, and coordination.
Prof. Kibwage reiterated the university’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the quality of its academic programs, and he emphasized the value of the guidance provided by the ASIIN team in elevating the global competitiveness and quality of the Master’s programs.
As Egerton University awaits the comprehensive ASIIN report, it envisions substantial benefits from international accreditation for the Master of Science in Animal Nutrition and the Master of Science in Food Science programs.
This accreditation’s global recognition is expected to enhance the university’s reputation, attract students seeking high-quality education and industry-relevant skills.
