Education PS Directs KNEC to Evaluate Assessment Measures
Education PS Belio Kipsang has requested that Kenya National Examiners use the 39th Annual Conference for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA) to seek solutions for the evaluation of students.
Kipsang stated on Monday, during the conference’s inauguration ceremony, that examiners should establish a robust research center to promote teaching, learning, and assessment in institutions.
Kipsang asked KNEC to take advantage of the opportunity that the conference’s hosting presents. He emphasized the importance of using the platform to thoroughly examine the shortcomings within the educational assessment systems in both Kenya and the broader African context.
He believes that through such an examination, viable solutions to the assessment-related difficulties faced by learners could be formulated.
The conference, whose theme is “Educational Assessment for Nurturing Every Learner’s Potential,” is anticipated to occur between August 21 and August 25.
The secretary of state urged them to come up with viable solutions, adding that the country does not require outside expertise to address African problems.
Kipsang addressed the gathering during the week and prompted a question about the effectiveness of educational assessment in Africa and its impact on economic growth.
He remarked on the impressive professional qualifications of the attendees, highlighting their capability to thoroughly analyze the issues affecting educational assessment and provide tailored solutions that align with the African context.

He further stated that assessment is a cornerstone of teaching and learning.
Kipsang urged the examiners to make the most of the opportunity and ensure that they share the best educational assessment practices.
Kipsang expressed his appreciation during the conference, highlighting his commendation for the Kenya National Examinations Council’s prompt organization of the event in Kenya.
He noted the significance of this gathering as Kenya transitions to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The PS further reassured both the KNEC and the attending delegates from various African nations that the Ministry of Education is committed to endorsing positive outcomes from the week-long conference.
