Education CS Magoha has warned parents and school heads against putting pressure on Grade 4 pupils when school-based assessment tests begin on Monday next week.
Magoha told parents not to panic adding that the tests are not examinations.
“No one should be putting pressure on children about the assessments because they are not examinations. Even parents must stop putting pressure on the learners because these are not examinations,” said Magoha.
He stated that teachers must be able to utilise readily available resources to administer the assessments.
“I urge colleagues from the education sector to ensure that the Grade Four assessment that begins next weekgoes on as planned. Kenya National Examinations Courcil has already given guidelines on this important assessment, which is part of the successful implementation
ofthe Competency-Based curriculum (CBC),” said the CS.
The Grade 4 assessment is set to start on the 8th of March and end on the 18th. Professor Magoha noted that parents don’t have to worry about money as the headteachers already have enough resources.
“All scrzols received 50 per cent of the capitation and no one should say that they are unable to administer the school-based tests,” he said.
Field officers have already been directed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to facilitate schools to administer the tests.
“I urge all field officers to support schools and ensure that class teachers access the Knec assessment tools and administer them to their learners as seamlessly as they can,” said Macharia.
TSC directed teachers to ensure that the assessments are done during the normal class environment.
“I must emphasise that these tests should be done in normal class hours and all learners should not be put under any tense atmosphere different from their normal classes,” said Macharia.
