The National Youth Service (NYS) officers who had been shipped to Machakos to compliment police officers in offering security during the examinations have been barred by the Education CS George Magoha.

Magoha was surprised to see NYS officers waiting to receive examinations as he arrived at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) examinations container in Machakos Town.

Magoha said NYS servicemen or women have no business in monitoring KCSE adding that the available police officers are enough.

“As I speak to you, there are centers in the Northern part of this country where the second paper was tampered with. This emphasizes the need to have at least two police officers to ensure that one of the policemen is constantly with the examinations. Since I have been assured that police officers are there, we must have a minimum of at least two police officers percenter.

“In order to continue to reaffirm this control, then we must remain vigilant. We are aware that people are also trying to peddle fake papers. We are also aware that there are attempts by some candidates to get other people to sit the examinations on their behalf.

“Let me warn those people who want to destroy our children especially in refugee camps. In the event that you succeed to do something that is not reasonable, our teachers who mark those papers will find out and condemn these children for no good reason, ” Magoha said.

He asked examination monitors to actively monitor the examinations stating that the state is spending a lot of money in enhancing the integrity of the exams.

“It is not your duty just to be present in the school, you better check and confirm. Nobody should have access to the examination halls including the center managers unless there’s very good reason,” He said.
