Education CS Launch investigation On 5 KCPE Candidates Who Drowned

Investigation launched on Drowned KCPE Candidates

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has extended his condolences to the families of five pupils from Arap Moi Primary School who tragically drowned just days before the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

In a statement, the Cabinet Secretary expressed deep sorrow for the loss of these young candidates and pledged to investigate the incident thoroughly. He also wished a speedy recovery to the Grade Six candidate who is currently hospitalized.

Machogu revealed that his Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, has initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of the accident. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation and stated that the findings would be shared with relevant agencies to ensure appropriate actions are taken.

The Cabinet Secretary cautioned parents against exposing students to risky activities and environments, especially during the national examination season. He called for patience from the school and the affected families while the investigations are carried out.

Machogu emphasized the government’s commitment to taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of candidates across the country.

The tragic accident, which occurred on a Saturday evening, has left five pupils’ families in mourning, while one student continues to fight for their life in the hospital. According to reports, the students had visited Amazement Park in Eldoret a few days before the start of the KCPE exams. Tragically, their boat capsized during a ride on the manmade lake.
