CS Machogu discussed the student scholarship applications on August 24 before the National Assembly. He mentioned that only 26% of students had applied so far, which is 75,272 out of 285,167.

He stated that the Ministry of Education would seek assistance from the Ministry of Interior to increase the number of applications. MPs were concerned about the low application count as the deadline was approaching within two weeks.

CS Machogu explained that after the application process, students would be categorized based on their level of need. This process was scheduled to start on September 7, although some schools wanted students to report earlier.

Nyando MP Jared Odoyo indicated that reporting for some universities would begin on August 28, with the categorization process starting on September 7.

CS Machogu noted that universities were instructed not to reject students whose applications were still being processed. He mentioned that efforts were being made to address challenges causing the low application numbers.
