David de Gea has found an ideal replacement for Casemiro after his red card at Manchester United.

David de Gea has found a replacement for Casemiro after his red card at Manchester United.

After receiving a red card against Crystal Palace, Casemiro is suspended for Manchester United’s next three Premier League games, leaving Erik ten Hag low on midfielders.

David de Gea is convinced that new acquisition Marcel Sabitzer will be able to step in for suspended Manchester United midfielder Casemiro for the duration of his three-game suspension.

After receiving a straight red card for aggressive behavior against Crystal Palace, Casemiro is ineligible to play in a Premier League match until March. As a result, Erik ten Hag must find a way to cope without the key Brazilian. Fortunately, De Gea believes that Sabitzer, who arrived on loan from Bayern Munich in the last hours of transfer deadline day, is capable of filling in for Casemiro in back-to-back games against Leeds and a home game against Leicester later this month.

“It’s going to be tough for sure,” the United goalkeeper admitted following his side’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Palace on Saturday. “We already lost Christian [Eriksen], now Casemiro, big players for us. But we have a bigger squad, players are ready to play, everyone is really focused.

” Sabitzer showed already, he played 15 to 20 minutes and he did really well, made some good tackles, he is good with the ball and everyone is ready to play.”

Indeed, Sabitzer did, as the Austrian international excelled throughout his 16-minute cameo to help his new teammates preserve the win. The Red Devils’ new No. 15 made good use of his first appearance at Old Trafford after coming on shortly after Palace had scored a consolation goal following earlier goals by Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.

Ten Hag will be relieved that he was able to sign Sabitzer minutes before the January transfer window closed on Tuesday, as a half-season loan move from Bavaria was expeditiously arranged. Due to Eriksen’s injury until April, Donny van de Beek’s season-ending absence, and Scott McTominay’s two-week absence, Sabitzer will be relied upon immediately.

Ten Hag elaborated on what the 28-year-old can add to United’s midfield: “I’ve known the player for a long time from [Red Bull Salzburg]. I anticipate that he will perform admirably here, as he did previously. I believe he has a fantastic mentality; he is of the appropriate age, and I am confident that this opportunity will inspire him tremendously and that he will perform well for us.”

After Sabitzer’s brief start, the Dutch coach told MUTV,  “He understands football. You see that straight from the start and in training as well. He did quite well, he’s really composed on the ball and he knows how to defend. We need such players who understand the game and who also bring the right spirit.”
