CS Machogu’s Warning To Principals As Schools Reopen
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has cautioned secondary school heads against raising fees as schools reopen for the third term. During an address at Kakamega High School on August 30, Machogu emphasized that any principal found demanding additional school fees from parents will be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures.

He assured parents that the government will not permit school heads to increase fees, stating that the amount determined by the government is the expected payment for parents, with national schools requiring Ksh 53,000 per year.

Machogu asserted, “No principal or board of school management is supposed to increase even a single cent out of the amount that has been set because we realize that parents are also undergoing a lot of economic hardships.
Any principal found demanding extra amount from the parents will face the necessary disciplinary action.”
The Ministry of Education had previously announced in February that secondary school fees were capped at Ksh 53,554 for National Schools and Ksh 40,535 for other categories.
Furthermore, the Ministry issued a directive for field education officers to gather information on schools charging unauthorized fees and report them to CS Machogu.
