CS Machogu allays fears of university fees hike
Concerns that the forthcoming model for supporting higher education will make it impossible for students from low-income families to attend college have been dismissed by the government.
Instead, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu mentioned that the new approach will cater to students coming from a variety of different backgrounds.
During his speech in Kuria East, Migori County, CS Machogu stated that there were no intentions for the government to hike tuition costs for universities and colleges.
He stated that the new funding model for higher education being implemented by the government was designed to accommodate everyone, especially students coming from low-income homes.

The head of education also issued a warning to the locals to discourage the practise of restrictive cultural beliefs, which have resulted in the majority of learners from the region, particularly girls, not receiving an education.
Eliud Owalo, the Secretary of the Cabinet for Information and Communications Technology, agreed with him and stated that the government is eager to make sure that education is available to all children.
In the meantime, the principal secretary of education, Belio Kipsang, has stated that the government has taken steps to fully implement the recommendations of the Presidential Taskforce on Competency-Based Curriculum.
