COVID-19: Chirobani Primary School Headteacher collapse and dies on the road while heading to school

The head-teacher of Chirobani Primary School in Lunyu Kakamega County has succumbed to COVID-19 according to Lolwe TV. The school is found in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega East sub-county, Isukha Eastward.

The 38-year-old teacher who has been serving as acting headteacher collapsed and died while reporting to work on Wednesday morning. Allan Machikha fell down and died right outside the school’s main gate.

Police are said to have arrived at the scene of the incident and took the headteacher to Shinyalu hospital morgue. A postmortem examination is set to confirm the cause of his death, as per the report by a local daily.

This comes even as teachers demand Covid-19 testing in schools. A good number of Covid-19 cases have been reported in schools since the resumption of face to face learning.

According to experts, the numbers may be worse in 2021 following the COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted testing by diverting the attention of the Ministry of Health and the government from other killer diseases to the COVID_19 pandemic alone.

Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr Mercy Mwangangi has underlined the need to draw lessons from HIV in overcoming Stigma and discrimination as well as strengthening communication to effectively respond to COVID-19.
