Council Of Governors To Petition TSC Over Teacher Delocalisation
The Council of Governors is actively engaged in preparing a comprehensive memorandum to be submitted to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Their primary objective is to urge the TSC to expedite the process of teacher delocalization.
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Baraza, a vocal advocate for this initiative, made a compelling address during the annual general meeting of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) branch, held this past Saturday.
In his address, Governor Baraza stressed the critical need for the TSC to revisit its recruitment policies, with a particular focus on revitalizing staff morale. He expressed deep concern for teachers who are currently serving abroad and vowed to take up this issue with the Education Committee.
His unwavering belief in the importance of bringing all delocalized teachers back to their home regions was clear, as he emphasized that this would foster better collaboration and interaction among educators nationwide. Governor Baraza underlined the widespread consensus on this issue and assured that the Education Committee would diligently work on presenting the memorandum to the TSC.

Furthermore, Hesborn Otieno, the deputy secretary general of KNUT, reiterated the union’s steadfast commitment to advocating for salary increases. This advocacy is intended to provide much-needed relief for teachers grappling with the ongoing economic challenges they face.
It is essential to note that the delocalization policy faced a temporary halt in November of the preceding year, with a staggering 47,000 teachers actively seeking transfers back to their respective home counties.
This development underscores the urgency and significance of the Council of Governors’ efforts in pushing for a streamlined and effective delocalization process within the education sector.
