Chelsea Sets Sights on Signing £238,000-a-Week Star Hailed as ‘Truly Great’ by Pochettino
Chelsea are currently interested in signing Marco Verratti from PSG, a player Mauricio Pochettino is very familiar with from his time in France.
Sky Sports reported that Chelsea is interested in the Italy international.
What has Mauricio Pochettino previously said about Chelsea target Marco Verratti? Let’s take a look…
What is the plot?
Well, the Argentine and the 30-year-old worked together at Parc des Princes.
Verratti made 50 appearances under Pochettino, scoring two goals and assisting on seven others as the duo won the Ligue 1 championship, the Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions.
Although the 51-year-old did not remain at PSG for long, the Italian appears to have left a lasting impression on him.
Pochettino, as quoted by RMC Sport, stated:
“He is a player with a very good ability to read the game. He allows for us each time to have attacking possession and to bring the ball out into good situations, to better start off attacks. In attacking phases, he can double his efforts and provoke situations going forward.
“For me, he is a truly great player.”
Chelsea confront Verratti competition
Chelsea are not the only team interested in Verratti.
Sky Sports adds that Liverpool are also in the running to recruit PSG’s No. 6 this summer, while Atlético Madrid are also interested.
Kaveh Solhekol added that PSG could accept a £70 million offer for Verratti.
The relationship between Pochettino and the Pescara-born playmaker could be a deciding factor in Chelsea’s pursuit of him, but the Blues should be wary of Liverpool, in our opinion.
Jürgen Klopp is likely to lose both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia, so the Reds will have funds to spend on a new midfielder; they can also offer Marco Verratti European football for the upcoming season.
Keep a watch on this situation, as Chelsea has added the £238,000-per-week Paris Saint-Germain ace to their shortlist.
