The 20-year-old seeks assurances regarding his role at Stamford Bridge because his England status is at stake.

Chelsea has offered Levi Colwill a new contract, but the defender wishes to discuss his future with Mauricio Pochettino first.

The 20-year-old has a long-term contract on the table, but he wants clarity regarding his role in the squad. He will first speak with Pochettino, who will take over as manager on July 3.

The Chelsea defense is well-stocked, and Colwill does not wish to function as a backup.

Pochettino is a well-known Colwill admirer and holds the key to resolving the contract impasse.

Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, and Trevoh Chalobah all desire consistent first-team action, posing a delicate balancing act for the new manager.

As a defender with a comparable profile to Colwill, Badiashile could impede Colwill’s path.

Colwill, who excelled during a loan spell with Brighton last season, was the subject of a club-record £40 million offer from Brighton earlier this month.

Chelsea rejected the offer, but the two clubs will convene in the coming days to discuss a deal for Moises Caicedo, the Blues’ top midfield target. Any attempt to include Colwill in a trade will fail.

Multiple Premier League clubs, including Manchester City and Liverpool, could be interested in Colwill, but Chelsea insists he is not for sale at any price.

Colwill will know he has a chance to make England’s Euro 2024 squad heading to Germany next summer if he has a successful season, as Gareth Southgate has already taken notice of him.

During the June internationals, the youthful defender was promoted from the Under-21s to train with the senior squad.

Southgate has high regard for Colwill, who is presently excelling with Lee Carsley’s Under-21s squad at the European Championship in Georgia. On Sunday, the Young Lions will encounter Portugal.
