Chelsea injury news and return dates for Ben Chilwell, Reece James, and Sterling ahead of Fulham

Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have all been ruled out due to injury.

In recent weeks, Cheek

Chelsea has endured a lot of critical player injuries this season, but the cavalry appears to be on the horizon. Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Raheem Sterling, and Wesley Fofana have all recently returned to training, giving Graham Potter a significant boost.

However, the Blues have a number of January signings who can fill in. Todd Boehly signed eight new players on loan from Atletico Madrid last month, including Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, David Datro, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile, and Joao Felix.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, Lyon star Malo Gusto will join the club in the summer, leaving Potter with few choices at right-back in James’ absence. It should also be noted that Santos does not yet have a work permit, but the Blues have plenty of possibilities to fill in for him in the meantime.

Chalobah Trevoh

Chalobah was taken off against Liverpool after collapsing off the ball, and it has subsequently been revealed that he was simply suffering from cramp. He was treated by the club physio and replaced by Cesar Azpilicueta in the final ten minutes of play.

“To be honest, I don’t know,” Potter remarked. I had to come out and chat with you.”

Injury: Cramp

Fulham’s expected return date is February 3rd.

Following a clash with Theo Hernandez, Reece James James suffered a knee injury in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against AC Milan last year. When he returned from the World Cup, he pulled up against Bournemouth, causing another injury.

The 23-year-old returned to the Cobham pitches before of the Fulham defeat, but he was still training alone. Then, ahead of the match against Liverpool, he began to return to first-team training.

Chelsea is still confident that James will play some part in their next Premier League match against Fulham on February 3.

“The guys are making good development,” Potter added. Reece [James] has joined the team for training but will not play this weekend [against Liverpool].”

Fulham’s expected return date is February 3rd.

What’s Trending

Chilwell

Chilwell has also been spotted back in first-team training in recent days. The defender has been out for much of the season, so he’ll be eager to get back into shape and contribute to Chelsea’s prospects of finishing in the top four.

Chelsea is also hoping to see Chilwell play against Fulham.

“The guys are making good development,” Potter added. Reece [James] has joined team training but will not play this weekend. The same goes with Ben Chilwell.”

Injury to the thigh

Fulham’s expected return date is February 3rd.

N’Golo Kante

Kante has had an injury-plagued season so far, but the midfielder has returned to training at Cobham, although alone. The Frenchman is nearing full health, but a start under Potter is unlikely until he joins the first-team squad.

“N’Golo did his first couple of days out training on his own,” Potter added, “but there is still a long, long way to go.”

Hamstring strain

Early March is the anticipated return date.

Wesley Fofana

Wesley Fofana’s influence at the back has been felt in his absence despite missing the majority of the season so far. However, in a great boost for the Blues and the defender himself, it appears like a return is on the way, as he has been spotted in training again.

According to the Evening Standard, Fofana plans to return shortly. The Frenchman has been sighted taking part in first-team training, although he may not be available to face Fulham.

Injury to the knee

West Ham (A) – February 11th is the expected comeback date.

 Denis Zakaria

After a sluggish start at Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea loanee has impressed in recent weeks, forcing his way into the first-team. However, he was pulled off after 56 minutes in the defeat to Fulham, dealing a significant damage to Potter’s midfield options.

“Denis will probably be four weeks,” Potter added. It’s the top of his quad, which is a setback for us. Hopefully, he will be able to return sooner.”

Injury to the thigh

The expected return date is February.

Pulisic Christian

Pulisic was injured and subbed off in the Premier League loss to Manchester City, coming off worse in a tackle by John Stones. The American international was visibly upset as he collapsed twice after the challenge.

He was later replaced by Carney Chukwuemeka, and he was also absent from the FA Cup match versus City. He’ll be out for an extended period of time again.

“No possibility, no, he will be out past that [January transfer deadline], and there was never any thought of him moving anyhow,” Potter stated. He’ll be out for a few months.

“He is disappointed, but he is confident about returning sooner than two months. He’s in the stage where he’s crossing his fingers and hope his recovery goes well.”

Injury to the knee

The expected return date is March.

 Raheem Sterling

In the same game, Sterling was substituted by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang within the first few minutes. Chelsea has lost Christian Pulisic. Following a collision with John Stones, the 28-year-old winger collapsed to the ground with a scowl on his face.

However, Sterling is anticipated to speed up his rehabilitation from his hamstring injury in the coming days, according to football.london, and it is hoped that he will be able to return to team training by the start of next week. The England international has now returned to the turf and will participate in light individual training in the coming weeks, according to the club.

“Raheem less [than Pulisic], but we’re still evaluating the amount of it,” Potter said. But hopefully not more than that.”

Hamstring strain

West Ham (A) – February 11th is the expected comeback date.

Mendy Edouard

Chelsea stated that Mendy had undergone surgery for a fractured finger sustained during training, meaning he will miss the next few games.

The Senegalese shot-stopper did not play against Bournemouth and did not even make the bench against Forest. He had previously returned from international service with an injury in October, but has continued to play for his club despite being supplanted as No. 1 by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Finger injury

The expected return date is unknown.

  Armando Broja

Armando Broja could be heard reeling in anguish after pulling up nastily in the side’s mid-season friendly against Aston Villa, as his knee injury effectively ended his 22/23 season. It was a setback for the former Southampton loanee, who had made quite an impression under Potter.

“It was just an unfortunate action,” Potter remarked. He was able to catch up to their player and the ground. It doesn’t look good right now, but it’s too early to tell. “I’m crossing my fingers, but it’s an awkward one.”
