Chelsea Eye £60m Marc Guehi as Potential Replacement for Wesley Fofana

Chelsea view Marc Guehi as a prospective replacement for the injured Wesley Fofana, but must pay Crystal Palace £60 million for their former player.

Marc Guehi has been identified by Chelsea as a prospective summer transfer target.

The Blues are searching for a replacement for Wesley Fofana, who is injured.

Two years ago, Guehi departed Chelsea, but he could return to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea is contemplating making an approach for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as they search for replacements for Wesley Fofana, who is out for an extended period of time.

Fofana was sidelined for a significant amount of time after suffering an ACL injury during preseason and was forced to endure surgery as his Chelsea career continues to sputter.

As the Blues consider a move for Guehi, they may have to pay a comparable figure to replace the Frenchman, who joined the club for £70 million in the summer of 2018.

Palace value their central defender at £60 million and are in a strong negotiating position as he still has three years remaining on his current contract at Selhurst Park.

Guehi departed Chelsea in 2021 because he was deemed unsuitable for Stamford Bridge, but he is now being considered for a return just two years later.

The Eagles paid just £18 million for the 23-year-old and have witnessed a marked improvement in his development as Guehi has established himself as a regular starter.

He made 40 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions during the previous Premier League season, which saw them grapple with relegation before the hiring of Roy Hodgson led them to safety.

Guehi has made four appearances for the England national team under Gareth Southgate, with his most recent appearance occurring in June in a 4-0 victory over Malta.

He was given prolonged leave by the club after his postseason England commitments and did not play in Wednesday’s friendly win over Crawley. However, he will travel with the team on their upcoming tour of the United States.

Chelsea are already in the United States and are in a precarious position ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, as their sparse squad has failed to win over critics and Blues fans.

Guehi would add Premier League experience to Chelsea’s defense, but the Blues will have to pay Palace’s asking price because a buy-back clause was not included in his contract when he moved to Selhurst Park.

Mauricio Pochettino is endeavoring to construct a Chelsea team that reflects his identity.

After signing a two-year contract with Marseille, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is leaving Borussia Dortmund.

The Blues are attempting to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations and have been relieved of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang after the striker consented to join Marseille.

Aubameyang joined Chelsea last summer as a last-ditch effort to alleviate the club’s striker shortage, but he failed to make an impact as Graham Potter and then Frank Lampard limited his first-team appearances.

The ex-Arsenal player has one year remaining on his contract, but will be allowed to depart for nothing as Chelsea attempts to cut their losses early.

Aubameyang has signed a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 club and will endure a medical examination on Thursday.
