East African region will now have its center of excellence in Kwale County. A National Polytechnic will be established to serve the African region in the training of experts in the maritime and blue economy sectors.
The blue economy center will be set up at Chitsakamatsa in Waa/Ng’ombeni ward, Matuga sub-county. It will be tasked with nourishing skills that will further tap the tremendous potential of the
marine resources.
The project will consume Sh1.2 billion to be completed in only 2 years on a 40-acre piece of land. Kwale County Governor Mr. Salim Mvurya gave out the title deed for the construction of the National Polytechnic on Blue Economy to the Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Professor Magoha.
While commenting on the project, Governor Salim stated that the institute will specialize its training based on marine transport and port logistics on the blue economy.
The establishment of the regional institution in Kenya is expected to economically open the county for high-end investment. The Governor Says the institution will in the long run ensure the efficient management and sustainable exploitation of the blue economy
