Catholic Bishops Call for Peaceful Coexistence Ahead of Festive Season.
As the festive season approaches, Catholic bishops have urged Kenyans to foster peace and unity within the country. They emphasized the importance of maintaining togetherness and collective prayer to navigate the challenges the nation faces.
Unity Through Collective Prayer
During a Mass celebration marking Bishop James Maria Wainaina’s 40th priestly anniversary at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral grounds in Murang’a, the bishops reiterated the need for unity and spiritual dedication. Archbishop Philip Anyolo of the Archdiocese of Nairobi led the celebrations, which were attended by Bishop Peter Makau of Isiolo, Bishop Peter Kimani of Embu, and Archbishop Emeritus Peter Kairo.
They encouraged citizens to pray for the country’s prosperity and spiritual guidance, highlighting that the word of God should inspire people to align with divine purpose. The bishops stressed the necessity of spiritual support during times of heightened political tension, urging Kenyans to remain hopeful and steadfast in prayer.
Strengthening Family Bonds for National Peace
Archbishop Philip Anyolo called for unity starting within families. He encouraged spreading this unity to foster peace at the national level. The Archbishop further urged citizens to pray for leaders to align their actions with God’s will and uphold values that promote national growth and stability.
Reflections on the Advent Season
The bishops emphasized the spiritual significance of the Advent season, urging Kenyans to focus on prayer rather than the country’s challenges. They encouraged continuous prayer as a means of fostering hope and resilience among the citizens.
Bishop Wainaina’s Legacy of Service
The event also celebrated Bishop Wainaina’s extensive contributions to the Church and society. Born in 1956, he was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Nyeri on December 15, 1984. Appointed as the Bishop of Murang’a Diocese by Pope Benedict XVI in April 2009, he has since served in various capacities across the Archdiocese of Nyeri, the Diocese of Nyahururu, and currently in Murang’a.
Recognition from Community Leaders
The colorful event, attended by thousands, also featured notable political figures, including Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata. The governor lauded Bishop Wainaina for his steadfast commitment to the community and his collaboration with the county government to uplift society.
The bishops concluded by encouraging Kenyans to embrace the festive season with hope, unity, and unwavering faith, setting a foundation for a harmonious and prosperous nation.
