Angelo Stiller has emerged as a potential successor to the retired Toni Kroos, impressing in the Bundesliga after transferring from Hoffenheim to Stuttgart. His contributions played a crucial role in Stuttgart’s impressive campaign, where they secured second place, their best finish since clinching the title in 2006/07. This achievement also saw them qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 15 years.
Stiller’s performances have naturally drawn attention from elite clubs, including Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Liverpool. His growing reputation has made him a sought-after talent in European football, with many clubs keen on acquiring his services.
According to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the 23-year-old midfielder has a €40m (£33.5m) release clause that becomes active in the summer of 2026. However, securing him at that price is not as straightforward as it appears. Stuttgart has a contractual option allowing them to nullify the clause by paying just €2m, a safeguard given that Stiller’s market value has already surpassed the stipulated amount. By doing so, Stuttgart could then set a significantly higher asking price.

Negotiation Required
As a result, the release clause holds little significance in practice. Any club wishing to sign Stiller would have to enter direct negotiations with Stuttgart rather than simply triggering the clause. This ensures Stuttgart maintains control over his transfer fee, potentially driving up the price beyond the pre-determined figure.
Despite the external interest, Stuttgart remains confident that Stiller will continue with them next season. Chief executive Fabian Wohlgemuth indicated that the matter is not under discussion at present. He stated that Stiller has fully committed to VfB without hesitation and emphasized the club’s awareness of his value. For Stuttgart, this firmly closes the conversation on a potential transfer, at least for now.
