A Section of Baringo County leaders is asking the government to reconsider full reopening of schools in January 4th next year decrying a surge in Covid-19 infections.
Speaking during a burial ceremony in Baringo North, the leaders raised concern over the preparedness of learning institutions to host all learners in January. They also questioned the preparedness of parent to take their children back to schools.
The leaders asked the government to provide masks to school going children while at the same time provide infrastructure to host them before reopening. Until then they say, the full reopening should wait.
“We would want to see all learners and teachers are given face masks because we have parents who cannot afford to buy masks. You might think 50 shillings is a small amount but not all parents can afford.” Said Sammy Chelang’a the National Secretary Tertiary of Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
John Aengwo, MCA Saimo Kipsaraman said it will be okay if the government will wait until the virus ends so then children can report back to schools. “After all people study even at the age of 70. We have buried teachers and learners as well.” Said the MCA.
