Bad News To Teachers After SRC Has Announced The this About Payment
It was anticipated that the instructors recruited by the Instructors Service Commission, which is mandated by the Constitution to register, hire, promote, and exercise disciplinary oversight, would receive a wage rise this month. The Constitution mandates that the Teachers Service Commission perform these functions.
This is a response to the decision made by the salaries and remuneration commission to increase their pay over the course of two fiscal years, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 respectively.
The suggestion made by the salary agency was backed by President William Samoei Ruto, who noted that in order to reduce the pay gap between teachers and police officers and other public employees with lower salaries, those positions required wage hikes.
However, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has expressed worry that the wage increase might not be reflected in this month’s paychecks.
According to Akelo Misori, the secretary general of Kuppet, the salaries and pay commission was supposed to arrange a meeting to discuss how the salary rise would be implemented, but they failed to do so.
In his remarks made yesterday in Nairobi, the unionist made fun of SRC for ignoring the union’s interest in holding negotiations to review the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) by avoiding a meeting.
