The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has advised Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah to prioritize forming alliances with regional leaders and ensuring financial readiness as he eyes the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

Atwoli highlighted the importance of collaboration with Western Kenya leaders like Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to solidify Omtatah’s political foundation.

On Citizen TV’s JKLive show, Atwoli stressed that Omtatah should work closely with key figures, including Amos Wako and other regional leaders in Bungoma and Vihiga counties, to convene a caucus that would evaluate his chances.

He emphasized that politics requires more than research, advocating for a pragmatic approach to leadership.

Atwoli also emphasized financial preparedness as crucial for any serious political contender. He suggested that Omtatah should evaluate his budget and resources, questioning whether he would rely on well-wishers or personal savings.

According to Atwoli, successful political campaigns demand personal financial investment, as no one wants to associate with perceived poverty in the political arena.

Atwoli’s Confidence in Ruto’s 2027 Victory

Atwoli expressed confidence in President William Ruto securing re-election in 2027. He attributed Ruto’s advantage to strategic political appointments and regional backing.

Reflecting on the 2022 General Election, Atwoli noted that Ruto triumphed against former Prime Minister Raila Odinga despite Odinga’s support from former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He cautioned against underestimating Ruto, predicting an early win in 2027 based on the current political trajectory.

Meanwhile, Senator Okiya Omtatah has launched his exploratory campaign for the presidency, forming a 10-member committee chaired by Mary Kathomi.

This team, comprising political strategists, activists, and legal experts, is tasked with conducting nationwide opinion polls and formulating strategies to boost his chances.

Omtatah has positioned himself as an alternative to the Kenya Kwanza administration, which he accuses of failing to meet Kenyans’ expectations.

Despite the challenges, Omtatah remains optimistic about his bid and has called on Kenyans to support his mission to dislodge Ruto. He reiterated his readiness for the political fight ahead, presenting himself as a viable alternative in 2027.

Atwoli on Kalonzo’s Political Prospects

Atwoli also commented on Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s potential to challenge Ruto. He revealed his past advice to Kalonzo to step up as Raila Odinga’s successor.

However, Atwoli remarked that the 2027 race is already decided, indicating his unwavering belief in Ruto’s continued leadership.
