Arsenal’s Hopes Dashed as Mikel Arteta Reveals Devastating News Ahead of New Season Kickoff

Mikel Arteta disclosed that Gabriel Jesus will miss the opening of the upcoming Premier League season due to a knee injury.

The club confirmed that the Brazilian was forced to miss Wednesday’s Emirates Cup match against Monaco due to a knee injury, which will now be “evaluated” by the Gunners’ medical staff.

The news will be a significant setback for Arsenal, particularly considering Jesus’ lengthy absence last season due to a knee injury he sustained at the World Cup.

The former Manchester City forward has been in fine form during preseason play.

He scored 11 goals in 33 appearances for Arsenal last season, but Manchester City won the Premier League title.

However, following the Monaco match, Arteta stated, “Unfortunately, he had a minor procedure this morning.”
The discomfort in his knee was causing him problems, so surgery was required. He will be out for several weeks.”

Jesus’ absence against Monaco afforded Eddie Nketiah, who filled in for Jesus last season, another opportunity to start in attack.

And the England Under-21 star scored in the 1-1 stalemate prior to Arsenal’s penalty shootout victory.

Arteta also gave the 24-year-old the captain’s armband; he is now anticipated to lead the team’s attack when the new season begins.

Arsenal can also utilize summer acquisition Kai Havertz in a forward role, but Arteta intends to utilize the German as part of a three-man midfield this season.

Folarin Balogun is a further possibility after impressing on loan with Reins last season, but he remains strongly linked with a summer exit.
