Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in Montpellier’s Elye Wahi

According to reports, Arsenal and Chelsea will compete for the services of Montpellier forward Elye Wahi this summer.

Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, and Jurrien Timber have all already joined the Emirates. But Mikel Arteta is eager to recruit additional players for his team.

Wahi had an outstanding season with Montpellier in 2022-23 and is expected to become a top athlete in the future.

It has been extensively reported that Chelsea is ‘in talks’ with the French club about signing Wahi this summer.

The 20-year-old scored 19 goals and dished out six assists in 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season. This gives him an outstanding average contribution of 0.76 goals per game.

Pochettino is rumored to be interested in the forward. However, the manager intends to transfer Wahi to Strasbourg instead of using him in the Premier League during the upcoming season.

According to the French publication RMC Sport, Wahi ‘doesn’t like’ this notion and would prefer to join Chelsea’s first team immediately.

Chelsea is preparing a bid of €32 million (£28 million) for the France U-21 international. However, Arsenal could potentially derail their plans.

According to the report, the Gunners have now ‘enquired’ about Wahi and could potentially thwart Chelsea’s transfer attempt.

As previously stated, Arteta intends to make additional signings this summer in order to build on the success of the 2022-23 season.

Several distinct names are on the Spaniard’s radar. Arteta, for instance, is contemplating a move for Sporting Lisbon center-back Ousmane Diomande and Wahi.

However, due to FFP concerns, Arsenal’s current priority is selling players before acquiring new ones.

Edu is presently negotiating the sales of six players: Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney, Cedric Soares, Albert Lokongog, Nuno Tavares, and Rob Holding.

However, their interest in Wahi is undeniable, and he is believed to be eager to relocate to the Emirates.

Given that they already have a proven Ligue 1 goal scorer on their roster, the issue arises as to whether they need to sign Wahi.

Last year, while on loan at Reims, Folarin Balogun scored 22 goals in all competitions.

Balogun, like Wahi, desires consistent playing time at a high level. Arteta is willing to sell him this summer because he is unwilling to make that promise.

Arsenal’s decision to let him go and then acquire Wahi for £28 million would be questionable. However, they are reportedly prepared to compete with Chelsea for his signature.
