Arsenal are already planning to spend £200 million in the summer transfer window and could move for a player previously targeted by Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

Arsenal may soon vie with Manchester United to acquire Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong.

This summer, the Gunners have been extremely active in the transfer market. Kai Havertz, a German forward signed for £65 million from Premier League rivals Chelsea to become the club’s first summer acquisition.

It is anticipated that two more new recruits will follow him. Declan Rice is on the verge of completing a club-record transfer to the Emirates Stadium from West Ham, while Jurrien Timber is close to finalizing a transfer from Ajax. This would bring Arsenal’s expenditure this summer to over £200 million, and it does not appear to be complete.

Sport Bild reports that Bayer Leverkusen right back Jeremie Frimpong has emerged as a candidate for Arsenal. Mikel Arteta wants to add a more offensive right-sided defender, and the Dutchman appears to suit the bill.

Considering that the German club is reportedly willing to sell, a transfer could be relatively simple. Arthur, who was acquired from the Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro, appears to be a suitable replacement. Frimpong, 22 years old, has been with Leverkusen since midway through the 2020/21 season, when he arrived from Celtic.

Since then, he has accumulated 95 appearances, 11 goals, and 20 assists. He has two years remaining on his BayArena contract.

Arsenal has an interest in signing Jeremie Frimpong

The Gunners could face competition for Frimpong if they decide to pursue his services. Man United is also interested in acquiring Erik ten Hag’s compatriot. Erik ten Hag is eager to make a move for his compatriot.

Despite his outstanding performances, he found himself in deep water with Ronald Koeman, his international manager. The former Everton and Barcelona manager criticized Frimpong for turning down the opportunity to play for the Dutch under-21 team at the Euros this summer.

He said: “Not acceptable. I do not find that acceptable. The Netherlands Juniors are competing in the European Championship. If an athlete believes he has surpassed that level, I believe you are making the incorrect decision.”
