Arsenal is now prepared to challenge Chelsea to acquire a 25-goal/assist striker
Arsenal continues its pursuit of Elye Wahi.
According to Foot Mercato, Arsenal and Chelsea could compete to acquire Montpellier striker Elye Wahi this summer.
Last season, the 20-year-old was in excellent form for Montpellier in the French top division. In 33 appearances, he tallied 19 goals and added another six assists.
The Gunners reportedly’remain in the race’ for the promising youngster, despite the fact that Chelsea is already planning to enter into negotiations with the French club in order to acquire the player.
According to Foot Mercato, the Gunners are preparing for Folarin Balogun’s departure this summer, and Wahi could be his replacement ahead of the new season.
Montpellier is open to the striker’s departure for €30 million.
Arsenal should retain Balogun rather than acquire Wahi
The Frenchman scored 25 goals for Montpellier last season, but we do not believe he would be an upgrade over Balogun for the upcoming season.
Arsenal desires £50 million (€58 million) for Balogun. They are presumably considering Wahi as a cheaper replacement once he leaves.
Balogun is unwilling to serve as a backup to Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah during the upcoming season, having scored 22 goals during his loan tenure with Reims.
We would prefer that the club retain him for another year.
If they are unable to persuade him to remain, the hierarchy should consider recruiting a target man.
Arsenal is rumored to be interested in Mehdi Taremi of Porto, who is valued at approximately €20 million.
Taremi is already 30 years old, but he could add a new dimension to Arsenal’s attack if he were to come off the bench. He is formidable when it comes to aerial combat.
The Iranian just completed an outstanding season at Porto in which he tallied 31 goals and dished out 14 assists. Also interested are Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
