Arsenal Could Hijack Chelsea’s Pursuit of Ligue 1 Star
Arsenal is considering adding Montpellier forward Elye Wahi to their roster during the current transfer window, as Chelsea appears to miss out on signing him.
Wahi had a remarkable season for his current club, scoring 19 goals in 33 league appearances.
Arsenal noted his performances, but they also have Folarin Balogun, who returned to the Emirates after a strong showing in the same competition.
The potential departure of Balogun could create an opening for Wahi to join Arsenal, although Chelsea initially appeared to have the upper hand in the pursuit of the talented Frenchman.
Chelsea needs a new striker, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku have been told they must quit the club.
Wahi was anticipated to become a key player for the Blues, but Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino wants him to spend a season on loan at Strasbourg before moving to London.
According to RMC Sport, the striker is not enthusiastic about this loan move, so the transfer has been halted. Arsenal now has a possible opportunity to recruit him instead.
A Simple Arsenal Opinion
Wahi is already one of the best attackers in France at the age of 20 and appears to have a bright future ahead of him.
The forward will require some time if he transfers to England, so we should probably allow him to complete one more season with his current club before pursuing him.
