Arsenal confirms the sale of a 20-year-old for an undisclosed fee
After eight years with Arsenal, defender Mazeed Ogungbo has concluded a permanent transfer to Barrow AFC for an undisclosed fee.
This week, Arsenal and Barrow AFC confirmed the transfer of academy player Mazeed Ogungbo, who signed a two-year contract with the League Two club.
“It feels incredible,” Ogungbo said on the Barrow website. “I’m excited to get started, to meet the boys, and it’s been a wonderful process getting to know the manager and the way he wants us to play, so I’m looking forward to it tremendously.
“When I was on loan last season at Crawley, we played Barrow near the end of the season and from there, things just started moving in the right direction and I’m really excited to come here and start.
“I really really like the playing style, the intensity we play, and also the fans and the fanbase was something that really stood out to me when I played there last season.
“It just feels like a real family environment which is something that’s really important for me and will obviously help everyone perform out on the pitch.”
Ogungbo joined the Arsenal academy in 2015, and in 2021 he signed his first professional contract.
The defender subsequently joined former Arsenal academy coach Kevin Betsy at Crawley Town on loan for the 2022/23 season.
Early in the loan period, however, Ogungbo labored with injuries and Betsy was terminated.
It took some time for the Arsenal loanee to regain his starting position, but between March and April he made eight consecutive league appearances.
That included a match against Barrow, in which he evidently performed well enough to garner their attention.
Ogungbo is Arsenal’s second formal sale of the summer, following Nikolaj Moller’s four-year move to FC St. Gallen last week.
