Arsenal agree £5m deal with Sheffield United for a 24-year-old star
Sheffield United have reached an agreement to acquire Auston Trusty for approximately $5 million, though they must still negotiate the player’s personal terms.
Darren Smith, a reporter for Sheffield United, asserts the club intends to acquire Auston Trusty from Arsenal this summer.
According to Smith, the move would be definitive and cost around £5 million, with the Blades and Arsenal having already agreed to terms.
As of now, Sheffield United and Trusty have not agreed on personal terms, but Smith does not believe this will be a significant obstacle.
The defender has been linked with a transfer throughout the summer, with Rangers reportedly among the clubs interested in him. However, this option is rapidly diminishing.
Recent reports indicated that Trusty remains Rangers manager Michael Beale’s top choice, but transfer talks have stalled and the club is concentrating on other positions.
With Sheffield United entering the competition and agreeing to a fee with Arsenal, it is unlikely that Rangers will complete the signing.
After Trusty’s loan stint with Birmingham City in the Championship last season, Ipswich Town was among a large number of clubs interested in signing him.
The defender won the Supporters’ Player of the Season award with Birmingham, and he was close to reaching 50 appearances for the club.
Auston Trusty was named Player of the Season for Birmingham City.
Trusty accompanied Arsenal for their preseason tour of the United States, and his long-range shot helped the Gunners win the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge.
However, in the actual matches, Trusty only played 10 minutes as a substitute against the All-Stars, and he did not appear against Manchester United or Barcelona.
With Arsenal signing defender Jurrien Timber and ailing defenders like William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu returning to fitness, it’s difficult to see Trusty making the team as the season approaches.
Trusty joined Arsenal in 2022 for approximately £1.8 million, so a transfer for £5 million would represent a profit.
