All systems go as KCSE practical exams start
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) has officially commenced today, beginning with candidates sitting for their practical papers. This national exam is scheduled to run until November 24, concluding with Physics practicals. A total of 903,260 candidates registered for this year’s KCSE.
Candidates will be taking their practical papers this week, with practical exams including orals for French, German, Arabic, Kenya Sign Language, and music. Home Science students will conduct their practical exams between October 30 and 31.
Starting from November 1, candidates will sit for various morning exams, covering subjects like French (Listening Comprehension, dictation, and Creative Writing), Braille, German, Arabic, Large print, Kenyan Sign Language (Receptive Skills), and Music.
Just under a million students are set to take the KCSE exams this year, while 1.4 million will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.
The rehearsal date for KCPE and KPSEA is set for Friday, October 27, with exams beginning on Monday, October 30, and concluding on Wednesday, November 1. The 2023 KCPE examinations will mark the end of the 8-4-4 education system in primary schools.
Following allegations of exam malpractice during the 2022 KCSE exams, the National Assembly Education Committee investigated various malpractices, including collusion to share answers, use of mobile phones in exam rooms, impersonation, smuggling of unauthorized written material, leakage, and plagiarism, among other techniques.
KNEC is currently working to ensure there are no cases of malpractice in the 2023 national exams. Some schools have faced challenges conducting their rehearsals due to the presence of other learners in the institution. Schools were expected to close this week, and some have chosen to reschedule their rehearsals for this week.
