“A stressful night of talks,” Fabrizio Romano said of Chelsea’s target following their England record-breaking transfer offer.
Fabrizio Romano, a transfer specialist, has provided an update on Chelsea’s continuous pursuit of SL Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The Blues are currently in talks to make Fernandez the most expensive move in British history.
According to Romano, the Premier League heavyweights have made a €120 million bid to the Portuguese club, matching the release clause of the Argentina international. Benfica, on the other hand, are yet to make a decision, with president Rui Costa thought to be considering the offer.
The winter transfer window closes on Tuesday, January 31, and negotiations between the two clubs are well underway. However, as the issue continues, they have failed to strike an accord.

According to Romano’s report, Benfica has yet to ratify the sale, and negotiations will begin on January 31, the deadline day. Here’s what the transfer news expert had to say:
“It was another anxious night of talks as Benfica president Rui Costa has yet to give his approval to Chelsea’s €120 million deal.” Chelsea hoped for a breakthrough in the night, but nothing has happened. The talks will resume in the morning.”

If the transfer goes through, Enzo Fernandez will become Chelsea’s seventh January acquisition.
Enzo Fernandez’s outstanding performances for Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup made him a transfer target for Chelsea, who were among the first clubs to express interest in the World Cup’s Young Player of the Tournament and have maintained it throughout the winter window.
It was thought that the deal would fall through due to the Blues’ unwillingness to match Fernandez’s release clause, but they also signed Mykhailo Mudryk on a big €70 million move from Shakhtar Donetsk, casting doubt on their pursuit of the Argentine midfielder.
However, the Graham Potter-managed side do have cash to assist the move, and the ball is now in Benfica’s court to make a choice. If the deal goes through, Fernandez will become the west London club’s eighth signing of the January transfer window.
So far, the Blues have signed Mudryk, defenders Benoit Badiashile and Malo Gusto, attackers Noni Madueke and David Datro Fofana, and midfielder Andrey Santos, as well as Atletico Madrid loanee Joao Felix.
