  • The reopening date for all learners is yet to be announced by the government pending the determination of stakeholders meeting.
  • However, some private learning institutions have been recalling the rest of learners in schools for reopening.

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has announced that some private schools had flouted Government directives on reopening.

He revealed that Private schools have been letting all learners in their schools to resume learning noting that reopening of schools was limited to learners in grades 4, class 8 and form four.

The CS was speaking while assessing learning and the distribution of desks at Mukuru primary at Kayaba in Nairobi County today. The CS assured parents that learners already in school will proceed with learning stating that they are safer in schools than Home.

The reopening date for the rest of learners is yet to be announced by the government pending the determination of stakeholders meeting.

The government was forced to go back to the drawing board after it emerged that COVID-19 had started growing roots to learning institutions. Already some teachers have lost lives while in several counties learners are ailing from the virus.

Some schools were compelled to shut down after the virus spread to the institutions. Kenya National Union of Post Primary Teachers (KUPPET) has called on the government to close down schools due to fear that more learners, teachers and non-teaching staffs would continue to get infected.

The Education Ministry, however, has maintained that Coronavirus won’t lead to school reclosure adding that learners are safer in schools than at home. On Saturday, eleven learners in Siaya County were reported to have contacted the virus.
