The County Government of Nakuru, led by Governor Lee Kinyanjui, has come to the aid of a Kenyan teenager who has been chosen to participate in the English Premier League trials in 2020.

Godson Chegema, a Nakuru resident, was unable to travel to London due to financial constraints.

The Nakuru Administration has since paid for his air ticket, lodging, and any other expenses incurred during the trial period.

Chegema was presented with the goodies by Sylvia Onyango, Nakuru County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Sports, who emphasized the county’s commitment to fostering sports among the youth.

The football fan thanked the administration for allowing him to realize his dream and vowed to work hard during the trials.

His ambition is to serve as a role model for young people and inspire them to be better people.

In 2019, the 19-year-old took his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams at Kivumbini Secondary School.

He has been a member of the Deliverance Football Club, a team sponsored by the Deliverance Church.

Mark Lumisi, Nakuru youth coach, praised Chagema and predicted that if he was properly nurtured, he would emerge as the best player.

The County Government of Nakuru is focusing on infrastructure projects such as stadium construction, sports equipment purchases, and tournaments.

“Chagema’s success is an indication that sports is a key tool that can be used to keep the youth from crime and drug abuse. My administration has been supporting sporting activities among the youth,” Kinyanjui stated.
