KUCCPS To Open Application Portal On 17th Next Week
Universities have until May 9, 2023, to submit the costs of their academic programs, according President William Ruto’s directives.
In a letter to all vice chancellors and heads of university constituent colleges, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Wahome gave the institutions until May 9 to submit the information.
The government will only offer scholarships to students who choose degree programs at public institutions, Wahome wrote in a letter dated May 5.
“Kindly note that even though KUCCPS will publish all programs, the Government will only provide scholarships to students who select degree programs in public universities,” Wahome said.
“Students who will select programs in private universities and TVET programmes offered by universities will not get Government scholarships, and will only be eligible to apply for HELB loan,” she continued.
KUCCPS anticipates opening its website by May 17 to allow Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) students to choose their courses after the deadline for the submission of program charges on Tuesday.
The order was given last week when President Ruto unveiled a new funding scheme for colleges and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) organizations.
Students enrolled in national polytechnics and TVET institutions run by the Ministry of Education will both receive money under the new funding model.
The president stated, “The process of allocating students to universities and TVETs shall not be related to funding beginning with the 2023/2024 academic year.
“With immediate effect, all universities and TVETS must tell the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service of the costs associated with their academic programs. Before placing students, the Placement Service must publicize this information, he ordered.
Wahome stated that when all colleges had supplied information on the program pricing, the portal will open in a week.
Only the costs that were disclosed to KUCCPS in accordance with the President’s order within the deadline will be made available to applicants on the KUCCPS portal.
According to KUCCPS, universities are required to disclose pricing for the programs that have been approved by the Commission for University Education and should not establish new programs at this time.
