KNEC Increases Marking Centres As Machogu Announces New Rules To Curb KCSE And KCPE Exam Cheating.

KNEC Increases Marking Centres As Machogu Announces New Rules To Curb KCSE And KCPE Exam Cheating.  Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced additional adjustments to this year’s national examinations in an effort to combat cheating. During a commencement ceremony at the Kenya Institute of Special Education in Kasarani, he revealed that center managers would separate morning and afternoon papers. After returning the morning exam and student records, principals would collect the second paper for the day. This move aims to prevent the early exposure and leakage of sensitive documents.

Moreover, the number of containers and distribution centers has been increased to provide easier access to test papers for exam center managers, thereby reducing the risk of early exposure. The ministry has also expanded the number of marking centers to create a more conducive environment for teachers.

These modifications were implemented shortly before the national examinations began. The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) practical exams in French, German, and Music are scheduled to start on October 23, while the main exams will commence on November 6, starting with Chemistry Paper 1. For Class 8 students, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will begin on October 30.

These changes supplement the directives issued on October 19 by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to prevent cheating. KNEC has banned smartwatches, programmable calculators, and Bluetooth devices, and it has also prohibited teachers and students from bringing handbags, briefcases, backpacks, and kiondos into exam rooms.
