On Tuesday, May 2, President William Ruto declared that his country has reached an agreement with its Canadian counterparts to increase the number of jobs available to Kenyans in the North American nation.

The Head of State specifically mentioned that the program was aimed at graduates with degrees, diplomas, and certificates from local colleges, particularly those who attended the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and TVET institutions.

In order to increase graduates’ employability on the global labor market, the state would match the training of health professionals at KMTC and technical and vocational institutions with Canadian curricula, according to the president.

“Kenya’s labor force is our most valuable asset. It works diligently and is well-trained. Opportunities for Kenyans abroad are another opportunity to uplift our young people, Ruto said, “even as we invest in industries that would produce jobs in the country.

The new system was designed to meet the demands of the nation’s job market, which receives more than 500,000 graduates each year.

Ruto emphasized that Kenya has a large human resource capability that should be transferred to other countries to the Canadian Foreign Minister Ms Melanie Joly when they met at State House Nairobi.

Joly praised Kenya for being a stronghold of democracy and the development of human resources, stating that Kenyan professionals were among the best in the world.

She also noted that several companies were actively seeking talented employees from outside to fill labor market shortages, and Canada annually produces a number of job possibilities for foreigners.

Potential Opportunities

A combination of an aging population and a lack of domestic workers has led to a strong demand in Canada for healthcare professionals like nurses, doctors, and physiotherapists.

Cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal draw top talent from all over the world, and Canada is home to a growing innovation sector. As a result, Kenyan technological professionals have a possibility of landing lucrative positions in Canada.

It was also noted that there are lots of prospects for foreigners because Canada lacks trained labor in fields like building, plumbing, and electrical work.

The Canadian economy is significantly influenced by the tourism and hospitality sectors, and many companies aggressively hire foreign workers to fill positions in hotels, restaurants, and other tourism-related enterprises.

In the educational field, there is a need for international academics, researchers, and support staff because Canada is home to numerous top-tier universities and colleges.

Foreign employees normally require a valid work permit or a permanent residency visa in order to work in Canada.

The Express Entry system, which enables skilled employees to apply for permanent residency based on their credentials and job experience, is only one of the schemes the Canadian government has in place to entice skilled international workers.
