Kisii County Boss Threatens to Sack Striking ECDE Teachers

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has issued a warning that he may dismiss Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) instructors in the area if they proceed with their strike planned for September 14, 2023.

These ECDE teachers had previously informed the police of their intention to strike, citing grievances such as inadequate pay, which they claim the Kisii County government has failed to address.

Governor Arati, while addressing the public in Kisii town, emphasized the presence of qualified but unemployed ECDE teachers who are ready to take over the roles of their colleagues planning to protest. He suggested that those participating in the strike might risk losing their positions.

He also expressed his commitment to ensuring that children do not miss out on their education during the strike period, implying that his administration would enlist volunteer teachers to cover the gap.

Furthermore, Governor Kisii pointed out that in the past, teachers’ concerns were raised through the now-disbanded County Public Service Board, leading to delays in resolving these issues.
