Students who received a grade of D- or below on their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) are eligible to apply for a scholarship that was recently made available by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

Under the Bagamoyo-Horohoro/Lungalunga -Malindi and Mombasa-Mariakani Highway roads project, the agency requested the participation of students in an announcement that was made public on Tuesday, August 15.

“The Training is geared towards young people from the counties of Kwale, Mombasa, and Kilifi,” which are all areas that would be affected by the projects.

According to a portion of the notice, “The training is intended to provide vulnerable youth living within the project areas with the skills necessary for gainful employment and social sustainability.”

The training that the students will receive will be provided by one of the five institutions of technical training that KeNHA has designated. These institutions include the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic and the Christian Industrial Training Centre (CITC), both of which are located in Mombasa; the Mtongwe Vocational Training Centre (Kwale), Mkwajuni Vocational Training Centre, and Mdzongoloni Vocational Training Centre, all of which are located in Kilifi county; and the Mdzongoloni Vocational Training Centre.

Among the many classes that are available to students are ones in Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Installation, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Hairdressing, Basic Tailoring, Fashion Design, Masonry, and Carpentry, to name a few.

To be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 and have not completed any formal schooling above the diploma level.

In addition to this, it is anticipated that they will be literate and will reside in informal settlements located inside the designated counties.

The scholarship will cover the students’ tuition costs, boarding costs, as well as provide them with a monthly stipend.

Instructions on How to Apply

Candidates who are interested can go to the KeNHA website, get the application forms, fill them out, and then drop them off at one of the authorised offices.

According to the notification, applications can be submitted to “Applications shall be received through the offices of the County Commissioners Mombasa,Kilifi and Kwale or KeNHA Regional offices in Mombasa.”

The applications will be judged according to the main indications, and then those applicants who fulfil the fundamental requirements will have to go through a physical presentation and an interview.

A comparative review of the applications that were submitted, of the conditions that were fulfilled, and of the criteria relating to the merit that were created in cooperation with other government agencies will be used to determine which students would receive scholarships.

The closing date for submission of applications is set for the first Friday in September 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
