CS Machogu Addresses Public University Fees Hike Concerns
Concerns that the soon-to-be implemented model for supporting higher education will make it impossible for students from low-income families to attend college have been allayed by the government.
Instead, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu mentioned that the new approach will cater to students coming from a variety of different backgrounds.
During his speech in Kuria East, Migori County, CS Machogu stated that there were no intentions for the government to hike tuition costs for universities and colleges.
He stated that the new funding model for higher education being implemented by the government was designed to accommodate everyone, but particularly those coming from low-income families.
The head of education also admonished locals against practising repressive cultural ideas, which have resulted in the majority of students from the region, particularly girls, not receiving an education.
Eliud Owalo, the Cabinet Secretary for Information and Communications Technology, shared his comments when he said that the government was eager to make sure that education was available to all children.

In the meantime, the principal secretary of education, Belio Kipsang, has stated that the government has taken steps to fully implement the recommendations of the Presidential Taskforce on Competency-Based Curriculum.
The new model for funding universities was met with support from Felix Koskei, who serves as Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service. Koskei believed that the new approach was fair. Koskei claims that the structure of the new model will ensure that all students have equitable access to higher education.
He indicated that the ability of a parent or guardian to pay will now be taken into consideration when determining university tuition.
“University fees are now affordable, as parents’ ability to pay will be evaluated on an individual basis,” he declared on Friday at St. Mary’s Tachasis Girls Secondary School in Tindiret, Nandi County. St. Mary’s Tachasis Girls Secondary School is located in Nandi County. Mr. Koskei advised the people of Kenya to make use of the recently inaugurated Open University of Kenya, which provides Kenyans with affordable access to higher education on the internet.
Prior to that, Mr. Koskei had attended prayers for students from four secondary schools in the surrounding area. During those prayers, he had encouraged pupils to study hard since “education is the greatest equaliser.”
