Dagoretti High, St Antony Boys Set meet in KSSSA Kakamega finals

In the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) football finals, which will take place on Saturday at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County, representatives from the Nairobi region, Dagoretti High School, will face off against five-time winners St Antony Boys, also known as Solidarity Boys.

St. Antony Boys upset the hosts and fan favourites Friends School Shanderema in a match played in front of a crowded Bukhungu Stadium, while Dagoretti overcame their rivals and newcomers Agoro Sare 3-0 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

The 2019 finale, in which St Anthony won 5-4 on post-game penalties to clinch the overall Championship, will be reenacted in this year’s championship game.

The 2014 national games champions in the girls division, Butere Girls, overcame all odds to advance to the finals, defeating Madira Girls in a thrilling match to set up a showdown with Wiyeta Girls, who rallied from a goal down to draw Dagoretti Mixed 2-2 before defeating them on extra-time penalty kicks.

Wiyeta strategist Edgar Manyara, a ten-time National Champion, hailed his team for their explosive performance to earn a spot in Rwanda.

“We are pleased with the victory; my kids showed resiliency despite falling behind earlier. Although it was a difficult game, we managed to calm our anxieties and win.Tomorrow, we will compete for our 11th championship, and we will give it everything, said Manyara.

Howard Shikanga, his Butere opponent, agreed that they had a difficult task ahead of them but remained confident about taking home the top prize.

“I am pleased with the victory; we gave it our all, and my daughters are pleased that they will soon be travelling to Rwanda. We explained how we got to this point. We have already faced Wiyeta, we are familiar with their strategy, and we intend to win the game,” he stated.
