The majority of students who passed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2022 and met government sponsorship requirements will be admitted to Kisii University.

This is in accordance with the latest placement findings that Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel made public.

In that order, Kenyatta University is followed by Maseno University, JKUAT, and the University of Nairobi.

A record-breaking 8, 632 students are expected to enrol at Kisii University, while 7, 963 will be accepted through Kenyatta’s government sponsorship initiative.

Maseno will admit 7, 702 students, JKUAT 6, 917, and the University of Nairobi 6, 912.

The other universities are Masinde Muliro University, which will enrol 5,741 students, Moi University, which will enrol 5,430, Egerton University, which will enrol 4,699, Maasai Mara, which will enrol 4,394, and Rongo University, which will enrol 3,116 students.

On July 31, 2023, Machogu reported that out of the 870,561 applicants who were qualified for placement in universities and colleges, 130,485 received offers from public universities and 9,622 from private ones.

He said that 140,107 students in all were accepted into degree programmes.

“The numbers account for 80.9 percent of the 173,244 students who qualified for degree programmes,” he stated.

Only 285,698 of the 870,561 applicants who qualified for placement in universities and colleges, according to Machogu, submitted placement requests via the KUCCPS website.

At the same time, Machogu stated that under the new funding model the government has established, it will fully pay over 45,000 university students and 42,000 TVET students who are deemed vulnerable and in desperate need through Government Scholarships and Loans.

To ensure proper support, the classification of financial demands will be made using the dependable scientific Means Testing Instrument (MTI).

Machogu emphasised that through 100% government funding, students from lower-income households will finally have an equitable opportunity to enrol in TVET and universities.
